Mission

Chapel Hill Church has a long and continuing tradition as a "sending" church, and we are also deliberate in clearly sharing the "good news" of Jesus Christ throughout the local community.

We believe the Bible is God's Word; the sum total of God's written revelation to mankind. It is to be taken literally and is its own best interpreter. Because the Bible is relevant to every human need, we preach and teach it with full confidence in its power to change lives.

You will find the people of Chapel Hill Church to be friendly and interested in you personally. We invest ourselves in each other's lives, help each other grow, and offer support during the difficult times we all face. You can develop deep friendships here that will last a lifetime.

History

Our church history can be traced back to a letter.

Early in the 1890’s while living in New York City, Mrs. Grace Butts attended services being conducted by Dr. A.B. Simpson, founder of the Alliance. She became so deeply interested in his teachings that she wanted to share its blessings with her parents in Akron, Ohio. She sent them the Alliance paper which explained the doctrine of the Alliance. Being earnest Christians, they readily accepted the truths of sanctification, divine healing, and the second coming of Christ. This experience led them to begin holding prayer meetings in Akron and surrounding towns. God blessed these efforts which resulted in the salvation of many people.

In October 1959, a three-member committee was appointed and charged with finding a property for relocation of the Locust Street Church. The committee was made up of Rev. H Wright, Ray Cochran, and George Hazlett. The committee recommended that the church purchase property at the corner of Howe Avenue and Brittain Road in Cuyahoga Falls, where it still is today. Soon we outgrew the first unit and in 1965, a second building was built. This added eight classrooms, offices, a fellowship hall (gym), and kitchen which was needed for Sunday School, church activities, and Chapel Hill Christian School which began in 1966. A third building project was completed in 1971 which now houses our two-story, 14 room complex. Our youth room, known as “The Hanger” was built in 1993 due to a rapidly growing youth group.

Edna Hanna, who was the first missionary to go out from Locust Street, arrived in Argentina in 1916. She married Emmanuel Prentice and both continued working in Argentina and Columbia. The Prentices had five children, one who had a large role in both Locust Street Church and then its relocation as Chapel Hill Church. His name was Everett Prentice. Over the past 111+ years, Chapel Hill Church has sent out over 100 missionaries and continues to do so.

Beliefs

We believe that there is one God who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Bible, inerrant as originally given, was verbally inspired by God and is a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. It constitutes the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.

We believe that all people are born with a sinful nature, are consequently separated from the life of God, and can be saved only by through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
